John "Jack" E. Vought, Jr., 77, of Mifflinville, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, February 13, 2017 at Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall in Danville. Born September 5, 1939, he was the son of the late John E. Vought, Sr. and Florence (Snyder) Vought. He and his wife Doreen (Unger) Vought would have celebrated their 57th anniversary on June 11th. Jack was a 1958 graduate of Central Columbia High School after which he worked for Berwick Knitwear for 35 years. He was the co-owner of Vought's Village Ice Cream Parlor and the creator and co-owner of Vought's Dog Coats. Jack had a creative mind and was always busy looking for his next project. He was a past member of the Mifflinville United Methodist Church. His hobbies included sailing, taking rides in his rag tops (especially his "vette"), looking for deer with dear friends, watching sunsets at the beach, and enjoying vacations with "the gang". He especially loved his family, including his extended family of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. "He took one last tack into the wind of life and is now forever full sail across heaven." Surviving, along with his wife, Doreen, is his daughter, Jacklyn and husband John Wark; son J.R. and wife Karen Vought; grandsons: Justin, Kenny, Garrett, and Hayden Vought; brother, Raymond Vought and wife Nancy, and grand-dogs: Maggie, Sophie, and Hatchet. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers; Richard Vought and Eugene "Skip" Vought, and sisters; Gladys "Suzie" Mordan and Grace Vietz. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
