Joan I. (Olsen) Matschat

Joan I. (Olsen) Matschat, 82, of Shickshinny, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Berwick Retirement Village I. Born May 19, 1935 in Jamaica, New York, she was a daughter to the late Hans and Dorothy Olsen. Joan worked at the Northwest Area School District as a custodian, and had also been employed at the Atwater Throwing Company in Plymouth. In her free time, Joan enjoyed yard work and tending to her flower beds. She loved to crochet and make hats and blankets for many of her friends and family. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family. A kind and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Surviving Joan are her sons: Richard Matschat and wife, Kelly, Karl Matschat, Hans Matschat, and Bart Matschat, daughter: Joan Matschat, grandchildren: Robert Matschat, Samantha Matschat, Tyler Matschat, and Austin Matschat, sisters: Ruth Olsen, Carol Olsen, Dorothy Young, and Florence Hogan. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Richard K. Matschat, who passed away November 24, 2017.
