Joan Collins, 80, formerly of Berwick, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville. She was born Septerber 9, 1937 in Pittston, a daughter to the late John and Irene DeStefano Collins, Sr. Joan graduated from Pittston Township High School in 1955. She then earned a degree from the Philadelphia School of Practical Nursing and worked in the office of Dr. Thomas Cretella for the next ten years. Next, she graduated from the Ja'Mel School of Cosmetology in 1964 and opened her own salon, which she operated for 37 years. Her last employment was at Boyer's Market, where she worked from 1977 until retiring in 2005. Joan was a member of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church where she served as treasurer of the Women's Council and was a member of the Bethany Over the Hill Group. Her hobbies included reading, cross word puzzles, bingo, attending Bloomsburg University Celebrity Artist Series concerts and Bloomsburg Theater Ensemble plays, and taking occasional trips to the casinos. Joan also was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan. Surviving Joan are nephews: John Collins III and wife, Reverend Barbara Collins of Selinsgrove, Jerry Collins and wife, Barbara of Berwick, and James Collins and wife, Sandy of Doylestown; niece, Maria Finkle and husband, Harry of CA; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. As well as her parents, Joan was preceded in death by brother, John, Collins, Jr. and sister, Christine Olah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, March 2nd at St. Mary's Church, 1730 Fowler Avenue, Berwick. Fr. Francis Tamburro will serve as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, at the request of the deceased, donations in Joan's memory should be made to a charity of your choice.
