Jay L. Dietterick, 68, of Berwick, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, February 28, 2018. Born in Berwick June 14, 1949, he was a son to the late Richard Dietterick and Arlene (Steinbrenner) Dietterick. Jay graduated from Berwick Area High School, Class of 1967, and attended Penn State University, Hazleton campus. Growing up, he worked on his family's dairy farm and, while attending high school, at the Confair Bottling Company. Following college, he worked as a typesetter for Pennset from 1974 until his retirement in 2011. Jay was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Berwick, where he served on session. He loved gardening and yard work. He also enjoyed the Phillies and the Jets. His greatest joy, however, was his family and the time that he spent with them. A kind and caring man of great faith, Jay will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In addition to his mother, Jay is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, the former Nancy Ross. Also surviving are sons: Scott Dietterick and wife, Michelle, of Berwick and Chad Dietterick and wife, Amber, of Berwick, grandchildren: Cole, Leland, and Tru, all of Berwick, sisters: Janice Lechleitner and husband, Ed, Diane Clemons and husband, Dale, and Donna Schechterly, all of Berwick. All are invited to join Jay's family for a viewing 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, March 2 at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. His funeral will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 3 at the First Presbyterian Church of Berwick, 320 North Market Street, Berwick. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Pastor Stephen Engelhardt will officiate. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jay's name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Berwick, 320 North Market Street, PO Box 325, Berwick, PA 18603.
