James E. Velekei

James E. Velekei, 73, of Nescopeck Township, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026 at his home. Born in Allentown on January 28, 1953, he was a son of the late John J. and Helen A. (Zolnierzak) Velekei.

Mr. Velekei was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Class of 1971 and continued his education at Kutztown University. On September 25 1976, he wed the former Judith A. Beachman, with whom he would raise a family and share 41 years of marriage. Jim was a longtime employee of Bethlehem Steel. He later worked for the PLCB, where he served in the Wine & Spirits Store in Macungie. Jim was a quiet man who enjoyed listening to his audiobooks, reading the newspaper and working on crossword puzzles. He was a Phillies and Eagles fan who also enjoyed fishing. His greatest joy, however, was time spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Surviving Jim are his children: James E. Velekei, Jr. and wife, Jeanie, Paul Velekei, Stacey Velekei, and Nicole Hydock and husband, Mark; grandchildren: Kolby, Kaili, Gemma, Bradyn, Teegan, Nolan, Mabel, and Declan; siblings: Frank Velekei, Dolores Johnson, Theresa Lawhead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Judith A. (Beachman) Velekei who passed away May 19, 2017. He was also preceded in death by siblings: John Velekei II, Maryann Murphy and Helen Rapp.

Jim’s services are private and at the convenience of his family. The Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to serve the Velekei family.
