James Paul Shelhamer, 77, of Mifflinville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, May 5, 2025. He was best known as Jim. He was born in Berwick hospital on March 29, 1948. He was a son of the late Milford E. and Ellen “Jean” M. (Simmons) Shelhamer.
James was a graduate of Central Columbia High School, Class of 1966. After graduation he proudly served as a YN1, Yeoman First Class in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. After retiring from the Navy, James obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Automotive Technology at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn College). He worked as a mechanic for many years. James was a car enthusiast. Classic cars were his passion, especially his 1968 Hemi Road Runner, which was featured as a cover story in the August 2017 edition of the Chrysler Power magazine. He loved attending car shows, especially in Carlisle, PA. James and his late wife, Debbie, were active members of the Northeast Hemi Owners Association (NEHOA), where they made many great friends through their NEHOA family. James was also a member of the Mifflinville Parade Committee. He was a speaker at and marched in the annual Mifflinville Memorial Day parade for many years. James grew up as a member of the Mifflinville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed annual camping trips with his family, near Rehoboth Beach, DE. James also valued the time he spent with his three loving grandsons, Steven, Kevin, and Chris.
Surviving James are his children: James A. Shelhamer II of Iceland, Tara Michelson and husband Harry, of Middletown, and Kerry L. Shelhamer of Mifflinville; grandchildren: Steven James Scott, Kevin A. Scott, and Christopher B. Scott; brother Thomas E. Shelhamer and wife, Colleen of Mifflinville; and nephews: Nathan Shelhamer of Mainville and Joshua Shelhamer and wife, Kylee, of Utah.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Debra L. (Langley) Shelhamer, who passed away on January 25, 2018.
James’ services are private and at the convenience of his family. There will be a celebration of life held at a later date.
