Irene (Miknich) Bodwalk

Irene “Blink” (Miknich) Bodwalk, 91, of Berwick, passed away unexpectantly Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born in Berwick on April 2, 1934, she was one of 14 children to the late Nicholas and Julia (Klym) Miknich.

Blink attended Berwick Area Schools and was known for her quick wit, generous heart, and legendary rhubarb and apple pies. On June 28, 1952, she married the love of her life, Roger M. Bodwalk, Sr., they built a beautiful life filled with family, hard work and laughter. Over their 70 years of marriage, they raised four children, ran a successful business, and created a home that was always open to family and friends.

She worked at Consolidated Cigar and Lady Ester Lingerie Corp., but her proudest professional moment came in 1973 when she and Roger opened Roger Bodwalk Alignment Service. She was the quiet force behind the scenes—keeping things running smoothly with her signature blend of grit and grace.

Blink was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception B.V.M. Church in Berwick. She found joy in the simple things: word finds, gardening, reading, and sewing. But her true passion was her family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

She is survived by her children: Roger M. Bodwalk, Jr. and companion Kelly Oliveri of Stillwater, Ronald M. Bodwalk and wife JoAnn of Berwick, Ann Marie Bodwalk of Berwick, and Richard M. Bodwalk and wife Susan of Berwick. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Brett Bodwalk (fiancée Lauren Kemmerer), Ryon Bodwalk (wife Adysson), Rebecca Bodwalk (fiancé Matthew Richards), Nicholas Bodwalk (fiancée Brittnee Stout), and Josef Bodwalk (wife Megan); and her great-grandchildren: Raegan, Blake, Delaney, Luke, Tate, and Revv. She also leaves behind her sisters Stephanie Tinney and Nancy Algatt, her grand-dog Tater, and many nieces and nephews who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, who passed away in 2022, her daughter-in-law Beth Bodwalk, grandson Darren, great-granddaughter Bethany, and siblings Katherine Geczi, Anna Lupinski, Mike Miknich, Mary Miknich, Helen Sexton, Rose Kocerha, Pauline Remley, John Miknich, Evelyn Dainowski, Steve Bodnar, and Charles Miknich.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick, with Pastor Rick DiLena officiating. Friends may call from 6–8 PM on Wednesday, September 3, and again from 10 AM until the time of service on Thursday. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery Annex on Walnut Street.
