Helen E. Koval, 98, of Berwick, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018 at Berwick Retirement Village II. She was born August 22, 1920 in Berwick, a daughter to the late Andrew and Mary (Klec) Koval. Helen grew up during the great depression. She graduated from Berwick High School in 1939 then went to work at the ACF and continued working there throughout the years of World War II. After the war she began working at the Wise Potato Chip Company in the bagging and packing department and continued her employment there for 33 years until her retirement. Helen enjoyed gardening and yard work. She was particularly proud of her flower gardens. She was a member of Immaculate Conception (St. Mary's) Church and devotedly prayed the Holy Rosary twice every day. Surviving Helen are nieces : Kathy Wheat and husband, Lance and Jackie Bannon, nephews: August Gunthner, Bernie Koval and wife, Shirley, and David Koval, and sisters-in-law: Betty and Shirley M. Koval. As well as her parents, Helen was preceded in death by sisters: Mary, Suzanne, Verna, and Anna, brothers: Edward, Joseph, Michael, John, Andrew, and George, and nieces: Patricia Gennari and Sharon Koval. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very Reverend Francis J. Tamburro V. F. 11:00 AM Friday, October 26th at St. Mary's Church. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM until time of the mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
