Helen E. Gebhart, 90, of Bloomsburg, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Signature Health Care, where she was a resident. She was born June 13, 1927 in Zion Grove, a daughter to the late Floyd E. Applegate and Anna P. Kunkle. Helen graduated in the Class of 1945 at Rock Glen High School. She worked for years at the Columbia Silk Mill in Bloomsburg and later, at the Magee Carpet Company. Bird watching, crocheting, doing puzzles, and cooking were among the things she enjoyed. Helen also found enjoyment reading phone books, looking for possible distant relatives or friends she had lost touch with over time. Her greatest joy, however; was the time she spent with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A kind and loving lady, Helen will be greatly missed. Surviving Helen are daughter, Joan Chunko and husband, Greg of Zion Grove, son, Richard Gebhart and wife, Loretta of Bloomsburg, grandchildren: Amy of Waynesboro, Laura of Chambersburg, and Benjamin of Bloomsburg, great-grandchildren : Mylie and Noah of Chambersburg and Vaida of Bloomsburg. In 1991, Frederick Gebhart, Helen's loving husband of over 44 years, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jessie. All are welcome to join Helen's family at her viewing 10:00-11:00 AM Monday, January 29th at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick. Helen's funeral will follow immediately after the viewing. Pastor Ryan Reigh, Chaplain at Signature Health Care, will serve as the officiant. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Zion Grove.
