Helen (Redline) Ehmer

September 28, 1921 — June 19, 2016

Helen Redline Ehmer, 94, formerly of Bloomsburg, died at Signature HealthCARE of Bloomsburg Sunday, June 19, 2016. She was born in MIfflinville on September 28, 1921, a daughter of the late John C. and Carrie (Flick) Redline. She was the last member of her immediate family. Helen graduated from Scott Township High School in 1939 and attended West Chester State College, now West Chester University, for 2 and ½ years. During World War II she was secretary to the Safety Supervisor at the Berwick A.C.F. and later was employed at Geisinger Medical Center as a medical secretary for 34 years. Following her retirement in 1984, she had volunteered at her church, Columbia Montour Home Health and Hospice, the American Cancer Society, and the Boy Scouts of America. She was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ in Berwick for 73 years (since 1943). Preceding her in death were her husband of 60 years, Horatio V. (Val) Ehmer in 2004, her parents, sisters: Marion Redline, Ruby Sweppenheiser, Opal Johnson, Corinne Thomas, Marqueen Lutz; niece, Marqueen Mensinger, and nephews: Elmer Mowery and Delmar Johnson, Jr. She is survived by nieces: Ann Burgess of LaMesa, CA., Sandra Christian of Danville, Jane Kile of Almedia, Lisa Mosier of Mechanicsburg, Elizabeth Yerger of Reading, Ann Bradshaw of Espy, Amy Johnson of Espy, Joan Thomas of Berwick, and Virginia Nicholas of Mansfield, and nephews: John Ehmer of Towson, MD., James Ehmer of Danville, and Chris Ehmer of Espy.. Private interment will be in the Creveling Cemetery in Almedia. Pastor Steve Hummel of Trinity United Church of Christ, Bloomsburg will serve as the officiant. A memorial service will be held at the First Reformed United Church of Christ, 2nd and Vine Sts., Berwick, at the convenience of the family. The family will provide the flowers.
