Gordon M. Styers

Gordon M. "Pat" Styers, 92 of Berwick, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Berwick Hospital Center Emergency Room. He was born May 6, 1922 in Mifflinville, a son to the late Charles and Lulu (Michael) Styers. Pat was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WW II. He was employed by the former Confair Beverage Company of Berwick for forty years before retiring in 1986 as Corporate Vice President In Charge Of Sales. He then worked for a number of years on a part-time basis as a courier for the Berwick Hospital Center. Pat had a servant's heart. He was a past president of the Berwick Rotary Club, Life Member of the Berwick Elks Lodge, past president of the Pennsylvania Bottlers' Association, past board member of the Jaycees, past board member and fifty year member of the Berwick American Legion, member of the Berwick Chapter of the American Red Cross, 10 gallon plus blood donor, and transport driver, volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and a United Way Fund drive team captain. He also was very active in his church: First United Methodist of Berwick, where he belonged and served for over 6o years, as a member of the choir for over 35 years, a church school teacher and Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Administrative Board, President of the Trustees, member of the Finance Committee and Pastor/Parrish Relations Committee, Conference Delegate to the Central Pennsylvania Conference, United Methodist Church, and also a Lay Leader. Surviving Pat are his sister-in-law, Lois Shotwell, his daughter, Betsy Ann and James Gavitt of Cape May Court House, NJ, four grandchildren: David and Joann Serra, who lovingly took Pat into their home and care for seven years prior to his admission to Elmcroft of Berwick, Susan Serra and Meg Fleming of ME, Amy and Peter Bruno of NJ, and Andrew and Heather Gavitt of VA., and four great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Alex Serra, and Oliver and Caroline Bruno, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pat is also survived by three stepchildren and seven step-grandchildren. As well as his parents, he was preceded in death by wives: Iris E. (Shotwell) Styers and Ruth Ann (Hess) Johnson Styers, daughter, Connie Jean Serra, sister, Sara (Styers) Bower, and brother, James Styers. Pat's memorial service is 2:00 PM Saturday, February 28, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Berwick, 200 Market Street, Berwick. Pastor Ronald Hoffman will serve as the celebrant. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 PM until time of the service. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery immediately following the service.
