Gloria Irene Hess

Gloria Irene Hess, 85, formerly of Berwick, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Balanced Care, Bloomsburg, where she was a resident. She was born August 19, 1928 in Mifflin Township, a daughter to the late Samuel Fisher and Ursula Lucille (Mowery) Knecht. Gloria worked as a homemaker all of her adult life. She was a devoted and loving caregiver to the children of family and friends. Cooking, gardening, crocheting, knitting, and, in her younger years, teaching Children's Sunday School at Bethany United Methodist Church were among the many things that she enjoyed doing. Surviving Gloria are her daughter, Lucinda Ann (Hess) Kishbaugh and her husband, Wayne of Berwick, son, Douglas Jay Hess and his wife, Gerilyn (Washtician) of Linglestown, grandchildren: Jennifer Ann Kishbaugh, Jared Wayne Kishbaugh and wife Amanda of Berwick, Lauren Nicole Hess and Rachel Leigh Hess of Linglestown. As well as her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of over 60 years, Luther Jay Hess. Also preceding was her brother, Warren "Fritz" Knecht. Her funeral service is 3:00 PM Saturday, June 14 at the McMichael-Rairigh & Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick. Pastor Ron Hoffman will be the officiant. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until time of the service. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.
