Gertrude O. (Fowler) Hacker Sink Kinney, 89, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 21, 2026, at her home with her family at her side. Born in Berwick on January 13, 1937, she was a daughter to the late Leroy and Clara (Housel) Fowler.
Gertrude was a graduate of Berwick High School and had been employed at Consolidated Cigar Corp. On September 25, 1986, she wed John R. Kinney. Together, they owned and operated a restaurant in Virginia prior to returning to Berwick. Gertrude loved music. She played organ and piano and was known to enjoy karaoke. She also enjoyed Yahtzee. Her favorite pastime, however, was spending time with her family.
Surviving Gertrude are her children: Vickie (Hacker) Toig and husband, Bruce, Cindy (Hacker) Butz and husband, Randy, Judy (Hacker) Reichert, Francis Hacker Jr. and wife, Karen, Terry Hacker and wife, Melissa, and Tammy (Hacker) Laubach and husband, Vance; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Charlotte (Fowler) Lipsey and husband, Ray, LeRoy Fowler and wife, Dolly, Jerry Fowler and wife, Clara “Cookie”, Holly (Fowler) Young and husband, Russell, and David Fowler and wife, Wendy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, John R. Kinney, who passed away July 27, 2025. Also preceding her in death were siblings: Art Fowler, Jay Fowler, Robert Fowler, Charles Fowler, Sheldon Fowler, Gilbert Fowler, Norman Fowler, Ruth (Fowler) Mackert, and Barbara (Fowler) Karns.
Gertrude’s family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Commonwealth Home Health & Hospice of Berwick for their compassion and support, with a special thank you to Jessica, Bob, and Bobbi.
All are welcome to join Gertrude’s family for her Funeral Service 11 AM Thursday, 25, 2026 at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc, 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick. Reverend Alan Langelli, Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice Chaplain, will officiate. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery Annex, Walnut Street, Berwick, will follow. The Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., of Berwick, is honored to serve Gertrude’s family.
