On February 15, 2016 at 8:36 PM, Gerald A. Brandt was peacefully reunited with his loving wife of 61 years, Carol Jean. It has been 8 years since they last held hands, so their loving reunion brought them great comfort. Formerly of Mifflinville, Gerald was born October 22, 1925 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, a son to the late Austin L. and Irene (Shucker) Brandt. He was a graduate of the Mifflin Township Vocational High School Class of 1943. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army in January, 1944 and served in the 3064th Ordnance Company, Fort Richardson, Alaska. After WWII he managed the old Bowman Mill at Orangeville for 18 years. He also owned and operated Jerry's Hobby Shop in Bloomsburg for many years and later worked in the Maintenance Department of the Berwick Hospital. Gerald loved animals, especially Alex and Champ, the two greyhounds that he and his wife rescued and gave forever homes. He also enjoyed model trains, building and flying remote controlled model planes, and going to yard sales. He especially loved reading and conversing about American and aviation history. A fifty year member of Oriental Lodge 460 of Orangeville, he also was a member of Caldwell Consistory, a 30 year member of Berwick Royal Arch Chapter 314, Mount Moriah Council 10, and Crusade Commander 12, Knights Templar of Pennsylvania. Gerald was a kind and loving man who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving Gerald are 3 daughters: Deborah Deitterick and husband, Donald of Berwick, Kathleen Moyer and husband, Darrell of Hobbie, and Loretta Gebhart and husband, Richard of Bloomsburg, 5 grandchildren: Douglas Deitterick and wife, Desirae of Ashburn, VA., Jared and Justin Moyer of Hobbie, and Benjamin and Jessie Gebhart of Bloomsburg, 2 great-grandchildren: Vaida and Devin, 2 brothers: Richard Brandt and wife, Clarissa of Orangeville and James Brandt and wife, Ann of Mifflinville, and numerous nieces and nephews. As well as his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Adams. Visitation is 6-8 PM Friday, February 19 at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick. Gerald's funeral is 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home. His pastor, Reverend Doctor Howard Sasser of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bloomsburg will serve as the officiant. Burial with military honors will follow at the Mifflinville Cemetery.
