George Frederick "Fred" Morris

George Frederick “Fred” Morris, 94, of Bloomsburg and formerly of Berwick, passed away peacefully Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Gardens at Millville.  Born in Oldham, England on August 17, 1929, he was a son to the late Joshua and Amy (Byrom) Morris.

Mr. Morris attended Bloomsburg Area Schools.  In 1945, he began working at Magee Carpet Company, from which he would retire 52 years later in 1997.  Fred was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bloomsburg and had previously been a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Berwick.  He was a consummate outdoorsman who shared his love of hunting and fishing with his sons, grandsons, and several of his nephews.  Fred was an accomplished target archer and had been an original charter member of the Bloomsburg Archery Club. He had also been a lifetime member of the Orangeville Sportsmen’s Club and a member of the Espy Archery Club.  He will be fondly remembered as a dedicated and hard-working man who could build, fix, or do nearly anything he put his mind to.

Surviving Fred is his beloved wife of 46 years, the former Shirley Faux.  Also surviving are sons:  G. Fred (Jeannette) Morris, Jr., Joe (Tammy) Morris, and Ron (Kelly) Morris; step-children:  Larry (Barb) Boyer, Gary (Wendy) Boyer, and Linda (Joe) Stasko; 16 grandchildren; and 45 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by siblings:  Jack Morris, Ron Morris, Walt Morris, Sam Morris, Bob Morris, and Ada Shearer.

All are welcome to join Fred’s family for his funeral 12 Noon Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Christ Episcopal Church, 712 E. 16th Street, Berwick.  Reverend Troy Spencer will officiate.  Friends will be received from 11 AM until the time of the service.  The Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to serve the Morris family.  Online messages of comfort and support may be left at www.kelchnerfuneralhome.com.
