Franceso Balducci, 87 of Berwick, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 13, 2014 in Danville. He was born December 23, 1926 in Berwick, a son to the late Cataldo and Pasqua (Mancini) Balducci. A graduate of Berwick High School, he served in the Navy during WW II. After the war, he worked as a mason and water proofer: a member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 55. Dancing, playing cards, serving as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, golfing with his friends and family brought much joy to Baldy. He was a member of VFW Post 821 of Berwick, American Legion Post 273 of Bloomsburg, the Maria Assunta, and the First Presbyterian Church of Berwick. Surviving are his loving wife of sixty-six years, the former Hazle Lutz, a son, Francesco and his wife, Wendy of Gilbertsville, two daughters: Donna Rae Dietz of Danville and Nicholette Zimmerman and her husband, Robert of New York, seven grandchildren: Robert T. and Richard J. Zimmerman, Lindsey, Danielle, and Douglas Dietz, and Amanda Jean and Jessica Balducci, two great-grandchildren: Cale N. Walter and Nathan A Snyder, a brother, Joseph Balducci of Florida, a sister, Josephine Bastiani of Philadelphia, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Preceding Baldy in death were his parents, a brother, Michael, who died while serving during WW II, sisters, Jennie and Jeanette, and infant, Rita. A visitation will be held, 6-8 PM Monday February 17 at the McMichael-Rairigh & Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick. His funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home. His pastor, Reverend Darlene Little will serve as the officant. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. It was Baldy's wishes that any memorial contributions be made to a military service-connected organization of your choice.
