Eva M. (DeFrain) Mowery, 81, of Salem Township, passed away Friday, July 8, 2022 at Glen Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Berwick. Born in Scotch Valley, PA on May 3, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Pauline (Bellum) DeFrain.
Eva was a graduate of Bloomsburg High School, Class of 1960. She would later continue her education at the Hazleton Campus of Penn State University. She worked at Berwick Knitting, Hanover Foods, and Del Monte Foods, from which she retired. Eva had been a long time member of Beach Haven United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the church’s women’s club. She was a member of the Pioneer Fife and Drum Corp, Berwick VFW Post 821, the Garibaldi Society, and the Mocanaqua Sporting Club. She enjoyed jigsaw and world puzzles, reading, and shopping. She was a devoted mother who loved spending time with her family, by whom she will be greatly missed.
Surviving Eva are her children: Kimberly Stoffels and husband, James, of Port Royal and Keith “Jake” Mowery of Berwick; granddaughter, Blanche Holdren of Port Royal; brother, Ralph DeFrain and wife, Sally, of Bloomsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Eva was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Gordon E. Mowery, who passed away June 7, 2017. She was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law: Francis Shannon, Barry Gross, and Robert Shaffer.
All are welcome to join Eva’s family for her memorial service service 11 AM Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Briar Creek Lake. Reverend John Pfeil of First Presbyterian Church of Milton will officiate.
