Emanell W. (Whitenight) Stephens

September 9, 1921 — February 4, 2017

Emanell W. Stephens, 95, formerly of Lime Ridge, died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Signature Healthcare of Bloomsburg, where she was a resident. She was born in Dutch Hill, Madison Township September 9, 1921, daughter of the late Luther R. and Helen (Wintersteen) Whitenight. Emanell attended the Dutch Hill one room school and graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1938. She graduated from Susquehanna University in 1942 with a BA in Music Education and taught school for 32 years, the last being at Central Columbia. She also was a flight attendant with American Airlines from 1945-1948. Emanell lived in Lime Ridge for 42 years. She was a member of the Lime Ridge United Methodist Church where she served on several committees and started the children's choir. She also started a children's choir at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg and was the choir director and accompanist at the Mifflinville United Methodist Church for 6 years. She also served as a South Centre Township Supervisor and Judge of Elections for several years. A woman of love and compassion, she enjoyed helping others as a volunteer at the Bloomsburg Hospital and Geisinger Medical Center. Knitting, making quilts, and playing piano were among her most favorite pastimes. Surviving Emanell is her step-son, Eugene Stephens and wife, Connie of Summerhill, 3 step-grandchildren: Caroline, Susanne, and Aaron, and step-great-grandson, Cody. As well as her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wilbur in 2010. Also preceding were sister, Eloise Runyan and 2 brothers: Dr. John Whitenight and Lee Whitenight. Emanell's funeral is 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Lime Ridge United Methodist Church. Pastor Vince Keister will serve as the officiant. Friends may call at the church from 10 AM until time of the service. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park.
