On Friday, June 6, Elvin "Tiny" Sherman was called by the Lord to come home to Heaven. He died peacefully at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with his loving family at his side. Born December 21, 1927 he was the son of the late Wilbur and Clara Sherman. Elvin was the twin brother of the late Alvin Sherman and was also predeceased by his older brother William. Elvin was a veteran of the US Army in which he served from 1945 to 1947 in the Army of Occupation. Upon returning home he married his soul mate and great love of his life Doris Freas, on the 15th of April 1949. Never separated from each other, they were often seen relaxing on the front porch of their Summerhill home where they resided with his in-laws, two people whom he cherished and credited with teaching him what the word "love" truly meant. Elvin and his late wife Doris celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage together filled with the kind of love and happiness most people only dream of, until her passing in 2011. They had a baby girl Joy who died in infancy but were later blessed with another daughter Joan. Employed first at Girton Manufacturing and later retiring from General Tank, he was well known as a metal fabricator. Elvin also graciously assumed the job of caretaker at his in-laws farm. Always wanting to lend a helping hand, he was never too busy to contribute his many skills to any in need. Elvin was a life member of the Summerhill Fire Co. and a faithful member of the Summerhill Evangelical United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter Joan, wife of Barry Rothery whom Elvin loved with all of his heart.
