Elaine M. DeFinis, 91, lifelong Berwick resident, entered life everlasting with her Lord on December 10, 2022 at Glenbrook Rehab & Nursing Center, Berwick. Born February 10, 1931 in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late John DeFinis and Emma (Ripa) DeFinis. Elaine graduated from Berwick High School Class of 1949. She worked in the garment industry including Milco Industries, Mittleman’s Dress Factory and Akers Manufacturing. She enjoyed making clothes for family and friends. There wasn’t a Simplicity Pattern she couldn’t make into a well- fitting dress or outfit. She was often called on by her brother Dan, of Dan’s Tailor Shop, to do alterations for customers. Elaine also enjoyed baking and cooking, making a variety of Christmas cookies and Easter pies enjoyed by family and friends. Elaine was strong willed and would always take the time to do what she could to help family and friends. She was a life member of St. Joseph Church, Berwick, steadfast in her Catholic faith, and active in ladies groups and helping with decorating the church for Christmas. She was the last surviving member of her generation of the DeFinis family. Elaine was preceded in death by her five sisters: Christine and Mary DeFinis with whom she resided, Elizabeth Kemp, Moralda Hugick and Elaine DeFinis, who died in childhood and whom after she was named; and her three brothers: Joseph, Daniel and Samuel DeFinis. Surviving are 11 nieces and nephews, including Ronald Hugick of Lansdale, whom she was instrumental in raising along with her sisters Christine and Mary. Friends and family are invited to call at St. Joseph Church, 721 Monroe St., Berwick, on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 10 a.m. until the time of her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Reverend William Barbee, as celebrant. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery, W. Front St., Berwick. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to St. Joseph Church, Rossello Parish Office, 730 Washington St., Berwick, PA 18603.
