Edwin H. Livsey, 89, of Berwick, died Saturday morning, January 9th, 2021 at the Gardens at Orangeville.
Born January 18, 1931 in Bloomsburg, he was a son of the late Ernest and Esther (Eyerly) Livsey. He and his wife, Margaret E. (Pooley) Livsey, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 16th.
Ed spent his early life in Bloomsburg and was a 1948 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. He proudly and faithfully served 20 years in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 to 1971 and moved to Berwick in 1972. He worked at Ames and Berwick Industries, retiring a second time in 1996.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Berwick. He was also a member of Washington Lodge, No. 265, F. & A. M., of Bloomsburg; the Caldwell Consistory of Bloomsburg and was a Knight of Caldwell; a life member of the NCOA; V. F. W. Post 821; American Legion, Post 273; the East Berwick Fire Company, the Berwick Marathon Association and the Bloomsburg Fair Vespers Choir. He assisted his wife as director of the Run for The Diamonds for many years.
He frequently played the clarinet at numerous community functions, at churches, basketball games, visiting elementary schools, and prior to the annual Thanksgiving Run for the Diamonds race in Berwick. He was an active runner for decades and had participated in the Run for the Diamonds race for 38 consecutive years.
Ed was the first one to play Santa Claus on the fire truck, which he did for many years.
He and his wife, Margaret, enjoyed traveling and they traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and 26 countries.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Margaret, are a brother, Eric Livsey and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest R. Livsey in 1997 and by two sisters: Elsie Livsey in 2004 and Evelyn Levan in 2019.
Graveside Services with full military honors will be held Thursday, January 14th, 2021 at 1 PM at Columbia Hill Cemetery with Pastor Bill Klebe, officiating. A Viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Kelchner, McMichael &Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. Masonic Services will be held at 5:45 PM Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Berwick Marathon Association, Inc., P. O. Box 856, Berwick, PA 18603 or to the First United Methodist Church, 200 Market Street, Berwick, PA 18603.
