Edith E. (Bower) Mowery, 87, of Berwick, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 14, 2026. Born in Berwick on October 24, 1938, she was a daughter to the late Thomas and Hazel (Mausteller) Bower.
Edith attended Berwick Area Schools. On September 2, 1955, she wed the love of her life, John V. Mowery, with whom she would raise her family and share 71 years of marriage. She had worked at the Berwick Shirt Factory for 20 years and would then babysit children at her home for 20 years. Edith attended Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed yardsaling and weekends at the family cabin in Sugar Run. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving Edith are her beloved husband, John V. Mowery; children: John V. “Butch” Mowery, Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Berwick and Scott A. Mowery and wife, Kim, of Nescopeck; grandchildren: Michele Sokalsky, Robert “Randy” Kemp, Jim Mowery, Amy Delgotto, and Kacie Chapin; great-grandchildren: Jordan Fester, Everly Kemp, Asher Kemp, Jack Mowery, Piper Delgotto, Emelia Delgotto, Adeline Delgotto, Aidyn Chapin, Ava Chapin, and Lily Chapin; great-great-grandchildren: Payton Titus and Kix Fester; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by daughter, Patricia Ann Watro; grandson, John Mowery; great-grandson, Memphis John Kemp; and siblings: Doris Wolfe, Thomas Bower, Margaret Hunsinger, and Henry Bower.
All are welcome to join Edith’s family for her Funeral Service 11 AM, Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick. Pastor Jim Snavely will officiate. Her viewings will be 5 PM – 7 PM, Tuesday, August 18 and 10 AM until the time of her Funeral Service at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 19, both at the funeral home. Interment at Mifflinville Cemetery will follow her funeral. Memorial contributions in Edith’s name may be made to The National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 E. 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
