Duane D. Whitmire

Duane D. Whitmire, 85, of Berwick, passed away peacefully and with his family at his side Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Sunset Ridge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Bloomsburg. Born in Berwick on October 23, 1938, he was a son to the late Kimber and Helen Irene (Davis) Whitmire.

Mr. Whitmire attended Berwick Area Schools and enjoyed a long career at Briar Knitting. On April 12, 1958, Duane wed the former Nancy Wagner. Together, they raised their family and shared 65 years of marriage. He was a member of Berwick Assembly of God. Duane was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a talented handyman who could seeming build or repair anything he put his mind to. He had always enjoyed restoring vintage cars, especially Mustangs. Duane’s greatest joy, however, was his family, by whom he will be deeply missed.

Surviving Duane is his beloved wife, Nancy (Wagner) Whitmire. He is also survived by daughters: Diane Bailor and husband, Mark, of Richfield and Sandy Bennett and husband, Greg, of Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren: Jason Hidlay, Michael Hidlay, Jamin Hidlay, Brandon Zwalkuski, Jennifer Ridall, Spencer Bennett, Brianna Whitmire, and Ethan Whitmire; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and sister, Ruth Ann Wagner.

In addition to his parents, Duane was preceded in death by a son, Brian Whitmire, and siblings: Leona Byrd, Robert Whitmire, Leon Whitmire, Glen Whitmire, and James Whitmire.

All are welcome to join Duane’s family for his memorial service 11 AM Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Berwick Assembly of God, 801 E. Fifth Street, Berwick. Pastor Scott Winter will officiate. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions in Duane’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
