Donna Jean (Stetler) Chapin, 90, of Berwick, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born in Berwick on July 13, 1933, she was the daughter of Leonard “Stubby” and Betty (Lohman) Stetler.
Mrs. Chapin was a graduate of Berwick High School. After graduation she worked at the AC&F. On June 20, 1953, she wed the love of her life, Ronald L. Chapin. Together, they raised their family and shared 60 years of marriage. After they were wed, she worked as secretary for the F. L. Chapin Coal Company, a position that she continued after her husband took ownership of the company. She had also been employed by the First National Bank of Berwick. Donna was a member of Bower Memorial United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in many of the church’s programs. An individual who gave generously of her time, she also volunteered with the Red Cross. She enjoyed bowling at the Elks and spending time around her pool. Donna’s family was the most important thing to her. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, by whom she will be deeply missed.
Surviving Donna are her sons: David R. Chapin and wife, Jean, of Berwick and Douglas L. Chapin and wife, Kathy, of Berwick; granddaughters: Julie Miller, Cheryl Slusser and husband, Cliff, Bridget Kane and husband, Jeff, Alexandria Chapin, Ashley Chapin, Melinda “Mindy” Vasilakos and husband, Kevin, and Tiffany Kester, Christian, and Jana; grandson, Forrest Chapin and wife, Jacqueline; great-grandchildren: Austin, Elizabeth, Quinlynn, Olivia, Kiersten, Landon, Logan, Savannah, Bella, Kennedy, Christian, Andrew, and Carson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald L. Chapin, who passed away August 3, 2013. She was also preceded in death by son, Wayne G. Chapin, and grandson-in-law, Thomas Kester.
All are welcome to join Donna’s family for her funeral 11 AM Monday, October 16, 2023 at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. Pastor William Klebe will officiate. Friends will be received from 2-4 PM Sunday, October 15 and from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service on Monday, October 16. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery Annex, Walnut Street, will follow. Memorial contributions in Donna’s name may be made to Bower Memorial United Methodist Church, 140 E.
