Donald E Martin

September 25, 1935 — August 8, 2014

Donald E. Martin, 78 of Berwick, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Friday, August 8, 2014 at his residence. He was born September 25, 1935 in Ephrata, the son of the late Donald D. and Elizabeth (Royer) Martin. After high school graduation he enlisted in the Army and served his country honorably for four years. He then went on to a career as a salesman for the Hamilton Farm Equipment Company of Ephrata. After retiring and moving to Berwick, Donald got involved as a volunteer for many community events and organizations including the Lions Club and "BABA" (Berwick Area Baseball Association). He also was an avid fisherman. Donald was especially concerned about children and animals: that they never were mistreated or abused. He was a generous man who treated everyone with respect and kindness. A loving and gentle husband, father, grandfather and friend to all, he will be greatly missed. Surviving Donald are his daughters, Donna Martin and Dana L. Vosburg and her husband, Ted, all of Mifflinville; sons, Donald Martin, Jr. and his wife, Melissa and David E. Martin, all of Berwick; and six grandchildren: Leah, Christopher, Aubrey, Joshua, Daniel, and Teddy. As well as his parents, Donald was preceded in death in 2012 by his loving and caring wife of 53 years, the former Doris Lorraine Hiester. Also preceding was a sister, Linda. His funeral service is 11:00 AM Tuesday, August, 12 at the McMichael-Rairigh & Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until time of the service. Pastor John Hill of the Berwick Christian Church will serve as the officiant. Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Donald's memory can be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1420 Susquehanna Trail, Selinsgrove, PA. 17870 or the SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA. 18702.
