Charlotte L. (Cope) Schaeffer

Charlotte L. (Cope) Schaeffer, 96, of Berwick, died Tuesday evening, July 8th, 2025 at the Gardens at Orangeville.

Born March 11, 1929 in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Orval S. and Frances E. (Peters) Cope.

Mrs. Schaeffer was a graduate of Berwick High School and had been employed by the former Berwick Shirt Factory until her retirement.

She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Berwick.

She, and her late husbands were known for raising and training beagles. As a breeder and shower of beagles, she had won numerous awards and ribbons over the years.  They were long time members of the Susquehanna Valley Beagle Club.

Surviving are her two brothers: Richard Cope, of Berwick and Sheldon Cope and his wife, Joan, of Morrisville; a stepdaughter, Janet Balliet of Drums; a stepson, Paul Schaeffer, of Crescent City, CA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands:  Lenard Carl on November 2, 1972 and Conrad Schaeffer on February 20, 2008; two brothers: Donald and Roland Cope; and a stepson, Thomas Conrad Schaeffer.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street, Berwick.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
