Charles B. Webb, 94, of Mifflinville, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born July 13, 1926 in Berwick, Pa to the late Elizabeth Welliver Webb and Mark Webb of Berwick.
Charlie (which everyone called him) graduated from Berwick high school in 1944, where he learned his affection for playing the saxophone in the high school band. He continued playing his sax into his nineties.
He then proudly served his country in World War II, being sent to the Pacific Theater where he was a radio operator on a C-46 transport plane. He flew many missions in the Pacific, including China, Australia, Guam, and New Guinea.
After his service he acquired his PA Professional Engineers license and Land Surveyors license.
He would start his career at Bukehart-Horn, in York, PA. He would eventually come back to Berwick and start his private engineering and surveying business until he retired.
Charlie was a member of the Mifflinville United Methodist church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir, and making Easter eggs with the Egg Committee. He played his sax with the Catawissa Military Band for many years, which he greatly enjoyed. He always had a great appreciation for music.
He was a lifelong NRA member and outdoorsman, who liked to hunt with his son Ron and stepson Steve.
A hobby he really enjoyed was woodworking, where he made all kinds of wood items. He would make stools, lamps, tables, napkin holders, pretty much anything he could make out of wood.
He also enjoyed taking trips with his late wife Evelyn. They would go on horseback riding trips in the West, go on ship cruises, trips to Germany, etc.
Charlie also cherished the friendship of his neighbors in Mifflinville, where they would often stop to chat.
Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Hileman of Lightstreet, and his second wife, Evelyn.
Charlie and Evelyn both cherished they were able to celebrate their 90th birthdays together.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Henry Webb of St Louis, Missouri.
Surviving are his children: Ronald Webb and wife Dalene of Berwick, Mark Webb and wife Nancy of York, Pa, Evelyn Webb of Lorton, Virginia, and stepson Steven Steiner and wife Odeta of Bloomsburg.
Also surviving are grand children: Cassandra Webb of Wilkes Barre, Lindsey Webb Dalane and husband Scott of Lumberton, North Carolina, Andy Steiner of Bloomsburg. Also, great grandchildren: Madeline and Corrine Dalane.
Due to the coronavirus issues, there only will be a private graveside service at this time. A memorial service may be planned in the future. Memorial contributions in Charlie’s name can be made to the Mifflinville United Methodist Church, 4th & Market Streets, Mifflinville, PA 18631.
