Charles Munro Eves

Charles Munro Eves, 92, formerly of Bloomsburg and Berwick, passed away peacefully Monday, September 18, 2017 at Fritzingertown Senior Living Community, Drums, where he was a resident. He was born January 6, 1925 in Bloomsburg, a son to the late Munro Charles and Agnes (Shuman) Eves. Charles was a graduate of the Scott Township High School. After graduation he entered the United States Navy in 1943 and served for the next three years as a Yeoman in the Seabees, stationed in Hawaii. He also served as a musician in the Navy band. After his discharge, he attended the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College. He then began a career as an insurance agent. He first worked for his uncle, John Shuman at the Shuman Agency in Bloomsburg. Later, he moved to Berwick and established his own agency with State Farm Insurance, which he maintained until retiring. Charles was a lifetime and "Cradle Roll" member at Shiloh Bible Church in Almedia. He also was a lifetime member of Washington Lodge and the Benevolent Paternal Order of Elks. He enjoyed traveling, especially his annual trips with his wife to either Florida or Arizona. An avid golfer, he enjoyed instructing putting technique to folks at Fitzingertown. Fishing and hunting also were two sports that enthused Charles. He served as secretary of the Bloomsburg Rod and Gun Club for many years. Charles was the last surviving member of his immediate family. As well as his parents, he was preceded in death in 2010 by his loving wife of 59 years, the former Nancy Crumb. Also preceding were brothers: Richard David, Donald John, and William Clark and sister, Jane Eves Hacker. Surviving Charles are six nieces and five nephews. Visitation is 10:30-11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 21 at Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church Street, Almedia. A memorial service celebrating Charles' life will immediately follow visitation. Pastor Dr. Douglas Lyon will serve as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street, Berwick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Charles' memory be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL. 60606.
