Betty "Jane" R. (Rupert) Hummel

Betty “Jane” R. Hummel, 92, of Lime Ridge, passed away peacefully at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danville on Thursday, December 10, 2020.  Born in Bloomsburg on January 9, 1928, she was a daughter to the late John W. and Helen (Hess) Rupert.

Betty was a graduate of Scott Township High School, class of 1945.  In 1946 she married Edwin G. Hummel, with whom she would share nearly 61 years, prior to his passing on November 8, 2007.  Betty was a long time employee of the Columbia County Conservation District.  She was a life member of Lime Ridge United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was secretary of Administrative Council.  She was also instrumental in the church’s annual peanut butter Easter egg making.  She was a woman of great faith who enjoyed spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her son, Jeffrey G. Hummel of VA; grandchildren:  Robin Grove and husband, Brian, Robert Hummel, and Elizabeth Mawyer, all of VA; great-grandchildren:  Takoda Grove, Tyler Bush, Therron Mawyer, and Isabelle Mawyer; sister-in-law:  Patricia Hummel of Reading, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Dawn Carter, and brother, Keith Rupert, Sr.
