Betty Jane Laubach, 94, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Berwick Retirement Village II. Born in Berwick November 13, 1923, she was a daughter to the late John and Arvilla (Boston) Leiby. Betty was a graduate of Berwick High School and attended Empire Beauty School. She proudly served her country during World War II in the US Navy, where she served as a parachute rigger. Later she worked as a seamstress at Lady Esther, Luzerne Outerwear, and Colonial Clothing, from which she retired. Betty was a member of Bower Memorial United Methodist Church and Berwick VFW Post 821. She was an adventurous spirit who loved camping and even took flying lessons. Never one to be idle, she filled her time with sewing and knitting, flea markets, antiquing, and Scrabble. Betty was an avid reader throughout her entire life. Her greatest passion, however, was her family. She adored children, and took great pride in hers, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving Betty is son: Kenneth Carl Laubach of Shickshinny, daughter: Kathleen Ann Walter and partner, Don Cadman, of Berwick, grandchildren: Stacy Jones of Harding, Amy Rustay and husband, Mike, of Wapwallopen, Rachel Ammons and husband, Timothy, of Wapwallopen, Elizabeth Aten and husband, Justin, of Bloomsburg, and Kristina Walter of Berwick, great-grandchildren: Dakota Segeda, Kyra Rustay, Deanna Rustay, Chyanne Rustay, Reagan Ammons, McKenna Ammons, Levi Aten, and Ryan Aten, and very close friends: Ariell Stout, Karlea Albertson, and numerous cousins. Preceding Betty was the love of her life and husband of 30 years, Lloyd Wilson Laubach, who passed away in 1977. Also preceding her was daughter-in-law: Catherine Laubach, son-in-law: Richard Walter and sister: Joyce Leiby, who passed away in infancy. All are welcome to join Betty's family for her funeral 11:00 A.M., Thursday, May 3 at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. Her pastor, Reverend Ralph Hartenbach of Bower Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. A viewing will be 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Berwick, will follow the funeral.
