Betty J. (Keck) Koval

Betty J. Koval, 96, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Berwick Retirement Village II, where she had made many friends. Born January 24, 1923 in Evansville, she was a daughter to the late Arthur and Louise (Grasley) Keck. Betty attended the Evansville School. In her early years, she worked as a waitress and a cook and operated a restaurant with her family on 9th Street in Berwick. Betty also worked at Consolidated Cigar and the AC&F. Later, she worked as a presser at Kaydette, from which she retired in 1985. Betty was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Evansville Grange. She loved cooking and feeding people and was well known as a cookie and pie baker. Betty loved spending time cleaning her home and was a spotless housekeeper. She liked to shop at Boscov's. She loved animals, especially her dogs: Buddy and Bear. Betty liked sharing fond memories of growing up on the farm, riding in the horse drawn sleigh, and cooking with her mom. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family, by whom she will be deeply missed. Surviving Betty are her sons: Bernie Koval and wife, Shirley, of Berwick and David Koval of Berwick, grandchildren: Joseph Koval of ME and Jana Koval of Berwick, great-grandchildren: Kathleen, Elizabeth, Teresa, and Samantha. Betty married her husband, Joseph Koval, May 18, 1946. He preceded her in death after 51 years of marriage in 1997. Also preceding her were brothers: Fred, Doyle, Don, Homer, and Jack and sisters: Martha Florence, and Fay. She was the last of her siblings. All are welcome to join Betty's family for her funeral 11:00 AM Friday, January 3 at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. Reverend Christine Kirchner will officiate. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Berwick.
