Alberta R. McHugh

Alberta R. (Sierocki) McHugh, 96, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danville. Born in Duryea on September 27, 1928, she was a daughter to the late William and Anna (Koval) Sierocki.

Alberta was a graduate of Duryea High School, Class of 1946. On July 14, 1956, she wed William J. McHugh, with whom she would share 40 years of marriage. For many years, Mrs. McHugh had been employed by Berwick Industries. She loved being a mother and homemaker, a role that she excelled at. She also enjoyed traveling and day trips to the casino. Alberta found great joy in time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, by whom she will be deeply missed.

Surviving Alberta are sons: William McHugh and wife, Carmen, of Stony Point, NY, David McHugh of Berwick, and Leon McHugh and wife, Cindy, of Catawissa; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William J. McHugh, who passed away April 5, 1997. She was also preceded in death by son, Richard A. McHugh, and siblings: Mary Resuit, Stella Hoover, Margaret Glodzik, and Stanley Curoski.

All are welcome to join Alberta’s family for her funeral 11 AM Thursday, September 25, 2025 at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick. Father Dominic Azagbor, OP will officiate. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery Annex, Walnut Street, Berwick will follow.
